~My absence~

For those of you that don't know yet, my Mother had a massive heart attack last Monday. I watched as her heart stopped, and they did chest compressions for 35 minutes, in addition to the paddles. She had one artery completely blocked, and had to have a balloon stint put in to clear the blockage. She also has several broken and cracked ribs due to the chest compressions. She is still in intensive care, but stable.
Today they removed the respirator tube, and she is awake and alert, although in a tremendous amount of pain, and still a little groggy. She still cannot talk yet, but seems to recognize family and friends. She can respond with nods yes or no at this point.
My Mother and I are very close, and this has been the toughest thing I have ever had to do. Fortunately, she has good doctors and nurses, and looks like she will recover with enough time.
I don't normally get preachy, but she is a smoker, and because of this, it is really complicating her recovery, and prolonging her getting better. Please, if you smoke, stop. It really is for your own good, and those around you who love you too.

Ohhh Randy, i've just read your journal and i'm so sorry about your Mum. I truely hope that she is on the road to recovery. And i hope that she gives up smoking now. Im sending you love and hugs. Its Mothers Day here in Australia tomorrow. My first Mothers Day i won't be able to talk to my Mum. Please give your Mum a hug for me tomorrow. Tell her its from an Aussie whos missing her Mum on Mothers Day.
